Changing backpack? Changing bag? Or would you prefer my own favorite bag? What do I need to consider?

A diaper bag, in whatever form, is an important companion from the very beginning. Because the better prepared you are, the less stressful you are on the road. So that you and your baby lack nothing, you should carefully pack the baby bag with all the changing utensils. Take your time. Once packed, it will always be ready to hand.

Whether you buy a casual diaper bag, a diaper bag or a diaper backpack, or simply convert your favorite backpack is entirely up to you. In any case, you should have enough space for storage and especially for retrieval!

Packing a diaper bag or a diaper backpack is something very individual and you will surely find your own way quickly. Here you will find a few examples and tips:

Advantages of special diaper bags and diaper backpacks:

With their useful extras and practical accessories, they offer you plenty of space for the various diaper changing utensils you need on the go.

For example:

  • a removable bottle holder,
  • a changing mat for when you're on the go,
  • an insulated pocket for baby bottles,
  • a wet compartment and much more.

But whether changing backpack or baby bag: both must withstand a lot and should be robust and waterproof in any case, so that you are equipped for any situation and weather conditions. In addition, something should also be allowed to leak sometimes.

Carrying options

Whether bag or backpack - how do you prefer to carry? Do you travel a lot with the stroller? Or do you like to carry with a baby carrier or sling? If you want to stay flexible, there are also modern diaper bags and casual backpacks that offer several carrying options.

Often, a good combination is the way to go:

For the stroller, for example, there are practical Organzier. An organizer is a plain little bag that you can attach to the handle of your stroller. Like in a diaper bag, there are small compartments in which you can store all the important changing utensils within easy reach.

Combined with a diaper backpack, which you can use for trips with the baby carrier or for longer trips with the stroller, you are well equipped for all possibilities.

Tip: If you want to attach the diaper bag or backpack to the handle of the stroller, make sure there is a loop or something similar for it. You can also buy such loops or extra hooks later.

What does my new diaper bag look like?

When buying a diaper bag or a diaper backpack, also pay attention to the design: if the diaper bag does not look like one from afar, you can continue to use it in everyday life after diapering. So you can really use the backpacks for a long time. The diaper backpacks from Lässig are a perfect example. Curious? You can find many beautiful diaper backpacks from Lässig here!

How to pack your new diaper bag!

Maybe it takes one or two walks and trips until you have found your diaper bag rhythm and you know what you and your baby need on the go. Over time, the bag will become your indispensable companion, making life easier for you and your darling.

Your diaper bag basics:

We recommend a small diaper bag: It is either included in your diaper backpack or available separately. It offers you storage space for:

  • Diapers,
  • wipes,
  • hygiene spray and
  • possibly a protective or wound cream.

So you have everything important ready with a handle. A water-repellent, reusable changing mat is also important. Now you still need:

  • A change of clothes,
  • a small bag for dirty laundry,
  • a multifunctional burp cloth and
  • a small toy or cuddly toy to distract you and your diaper bag is ready.

Tip: Always take a water bottle with you with fresh water. This not only quenches your or baby's thirst, but can also be helpful if there is no water tap nearby.

The little ABC of the diaper bag:

  • Diaper bag: for wet wipes (homemade if you like, but definitely fragrance-free) and two to three diapers.
  • Hygiene spray or disinfectant spray: before, to clean the pad and hands, and after, to leave the changing place fine for the next mom or dad.
  • Protective or wound cream
  • Water resistant changing pad: whether you are changing in public changing places or in the park a pad will protect from cold and messes.
  • Change of clothes: depending on the season. Swaddle bodysuits, such as our organic basics are always practical.
  • Burp cloth: a real all-rounder. You can use the burp cloth as extra padding on the changing mat, as sun protection or of course as - surprise! - Burp cloth.
  • Cuddly toy or toy to distract you.
  • Drinking bottle with fresh water

A little tip: It's best to refill the diaper bag as soon as you get home. And before you leave, take a quick look inside. Especially if you're going on a longer trip, it would be super stupid if you forget something important.

Is a special diaper bag really necessary?

A well-packed diaper bag makes your everyday life easier and saves time. A special diaper bag offers you many compartments and subdivisions that give you a good overview. You will soon realize that good organization is very important, because often there is not enough time. The pacifier must be found quickly and also for diapers you do not want to search long. So if you keep your diaper changing supplies smartly organized and within easy reach, you'll save yourself a lot of time and nerves.

Pay attention to the packing order: things you don't need that often, like a change of clothes, belong at the bottom. This way you avoid annoying "digging around".

Keep things tidy with diaper bags and cases:

Learn from experienced backpackers: don't let individual items fly around! Always pack items that you use together in small pockets in your bag. Use handy cases, such as those from Nobodinoz, to create additional order and structure. It is also best to pack a change of clothes in a small bag so that everything stays together. This creates a good overview and you find things faster.

Tip: Don't forget about yourself when packing! Your baby needs many things, but you should also have everything you need with you.

Always adapt the contents of your diaper bag to the following

  • the season,
  • the age of your baby and
  • the duration of your trip.

Often a few selected items are enough. You carry enough around all day, so make sure that you unpack unnecessary things. Your back will be happy!

Big checklist for the diaper bag:

  • Diapers: whether disposable or cloth, it's best to have two to three of the right size.
  • Diaper bags are useful to safely store used diapers when there is no trash can nearby. Compostable ones are best.
  • Change of clothes that are appropriate for the season. Especially practical are rompers or swaddling bodysuits with tights or leggings. Don't forget a hat!
  • Small bags for clean and dirty laundry
  • Changing mat: If the baby has to be changed on the way, a water-repellent changing mat is recommended. You can clean it quickly and easily.
  • Handkerchiefs
  • Wet wipes (without fragrance)
  • Burp cloth: either as a classic burp cloth, as sun protection when breastfeeding or when sleeping in the stroller.
  • Drinking bottles: an insulated bottle container is practical.
  • Baby food: If your child is already getting its first porridge, you should take something to eat, a bib and a small spoon with you. Home-cooked porridge can easily be transported in suitable containers. A double-walled thermo container made of stainless steel is recommended here. This way, the meal will stay fresh longer - whether hot or cold.
  • possibly snacks
  • protective or wound cream
  • Pacifier (possibly replacement pacifier)
  • In summer: sun cream
  • In winter: Cold cream
  • disinfectant wipes
  • possibly teething aid
  • Favorite toy or cuddly toy
  • Band-aid
  • Change of clothes for mom, in case something goes wrong during breastfeeding or burping.
